Four things, and the time to find them is not during the emergency. The main water shutoff, usually where the line enters the basement or crawl space. The gas shutoff at the meter, and which way it turns. The breaker for the furnace or air handler. And the furnace switch itself, which looks like a light switch and gets knocked off more often than anything else on this list. Find all four this weekend and check that they actually move.
